Confronting Uneven Funding and Uplifting Cultural Movement in the South
SELF-DETERMINED is a mini-series that invites arts and culture funders to rethink their views on the U.S. South and confront the ongoing funding gaps that affect the region.
The South has long been a vibrant center for cultural organizing, fueled by deep traditions of self-determination and resilience. By highlighting the work of artists and cultural leaders advancing racial justice and social change, we uncover new pathways for equitable investment.
The contributors encourage funders to reflect on their connections with Southern communities: What biases have shaped funding decisions? How can funders better support the self-led movements transforming the region?
Together, we can build a stronger commitment to funding justice in the South and beyond.
