“Radical Shifts: How Employing Artists in Non-Arts Organizations are Shifting Organizational Structures and Increasing Mission Achievement” was organized by Sarah Calderon (Creatives Rebuild New York) and Meida Teresa McNeal (The City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events) and co-presented by Bella Desai, Stephanie Jones-Horne, Meida McNeal, and Mecca Perry.

In this panel discussion, we will hear in-depth conversations between artists and the community-based organizations and city services where they are employed. The conversation will discuss how employing artists within the non-arts, community-based organization has impacted the artist – their practice and livelihood; the organization; and the communities they serve. Framed by work done in Creatives Rebuild New York’s Artist Employment Program and the City of Chicago’s job training program, Healing Arts Chicago, that explores career pathways for artists centered in healing modalities in partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and City Colleges of Chicago, this dialogue will allow for in-depth understanding of this type of work; its impact and importance in supporting creative workers.
